Getting started.

1 · Install Gecko

Gecko is a native Windows desktop app. Download the installer and run it:

• Download Gecko 0.9.1 (x64) — Windows 10/11, ~36 MB.
• Run the installer and follow the prompts. A webcam and microphone are required for camera- and sound-based triggers.

2 · First launch & permissions

On first launch, Gecko asks for camera and microphone access. These power the gesture, expression, and clap triggers — and, like everything in Gecko, the feed never leaves your machine.

• Camera — drives hand gestures and face/head expressions.
• Microphone — drives loudness triggers (claps, yells) and mic mute/unmute actions.
• Global hotkey and timer triggers work without either.

3 · Build your first key

Gecko is a deck of keys. Each key is a preset: a trigger, the actions it fires, and its own cooldown.

Add a key

On the deck grid, pick an empty key and open the key editor.

Choose a trigger

Pick a gesture (thumbs up, open palm, victory…), a facial expression, a loudness threshold, a global hotkey, or a timer. Set a confidence threshold and hold-to-confirm frames so it fires when you mean it — and a cooldown so it doesn't spam.

Stack actions

Add one or more actions to the key: drop a GIF / image / video / text overlay, play a sound, speak text aloud, toggle your mic, or control recording. Give each action its own delay to choreograph a sequence.

4 · Go live

Switch to live mode and stream. Gecko watches your camera and mic and fires your presets in real time, burning every overlay, sound, and screen effect straight into the composited output. Toggle the Gestures switch in the top bar to arm or disarm camera triggers on the fly.

5 · Record a custom gesture

Not happy with the built-in poses? Teach Gecko your own:

1. Open the gesture picker and choose record a custom gesture.
2. Show your hand to the camera and hold the pose for about three seconds.
3. Give it a name. It now appears next to the built-ins, works with either hand, and ignores where in the frame your hand is.

6 · Set up the OBS overlay Pro

Already streaming through OBS? Gecko ships a transparent browser-source overlay and streams its composited effects to OBS over WebRTC — entirely over localhost. OBS integration is a Gecko Pro feature (see below).

1. In Gecko's OBS settings, click to copy the overlay URL (it looks like http://localhost:5175/overlay/). The hub server starts automatically with the app.
2. In OBS, add a Browser Source to your scene and paste the URL. Size it to your canvas.
3. Trigger a gesture — overlays and effects appear in OBS in real time, transparent over whatever scene you're running.

7 · Gecko Pro & licensing

The core app is free. Gecko Pro unlocks the streaming integrations — OBS and TikTok LIVE Studio (via the hosted relay) — plus custom gesture training. It's a one-time unlock, tied to your account.

• Open Settings → Gecko Pro in the app and sign in with Google.
• Click Buy Gecko Pro to upgrade — if you've already purchased, you're unlocked the moment you sign in.
• Your Pro unlock follows your account, so it works on any device you sign in on.

8 · Troubleshooting

Triggers aren't firing

Check that the Gestures toggle is on, your camera isn't claimed by another app, and the trigger's confidence threshold isn't set too high. Lower the hold-to-confirm frames for a faster response.

The OBS overlay is blank

Confirm Gecko is running (the hub server starts with it), the Browser Source URL exactly matches the one Gecko shows, and nothing else is using port 5175. Refresh the Browser Source cache in OBS after changing the URL.

A custom gesture won't register

Re-record it in even lighting with your hand fully in frame, and hold the pose steady for the full capture window.
